The leading scorers in the Nedbank Cup semifinals
PIC: Kabelo Dlamini scored a brace for Orlando Pirates in the 2024 Nedbank Cup semifinals
There have been 78 different players to find the back of the net in Nedbank Cup semifinals, but only one has managed it on three occasions since 2008 with former SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates forward Kermit Erasmus leading the way.
A further 11 players have scored twice at the last-4, with Pirates’ Kabelo Dlamini adding his name to that list with a brace in their 3-1 victory over Chippa United in the 2024 semifinals.
There have been nine different scorers for The Buccaneers in the semifinals, but it is not the most of any club. Mamelodi Sundowns have had a record 13 different scorers, but none of their players have over the years managed to net more than once at this stage of the competition.
Like Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs have also had nine different scorers, but unlike The Buccaneers, they too have no multiple scorers.
Erasmus, who is not playing in the second-tier with Casric Stars, scored his first Nedbank Cup semifinal goal for SuperSport United against AmaZulu in 2012, before he netted again the following year for Matsatsantsa in their 3-2 success against Platinum Stars.
It wasn’t until a decade later when he got his third, in a 2-1 victory for Pirates over Chiefs in 2023.
Other Pirates players aside from Erasmus and Dlamini to score more than once at the semifinal stage are Luvuyo Memela and Sandile Mthethwa, though one of the latter’s goals came for Chippa United.
Pirates forward Zakhele Lepasa is another with two Nedbank Cup semifinal goals, though both of his came on loan at TS Galaxy as they defeated Lamontville Golden Arrows 3-1 to reach the 2019 final, where the second-tier side stunned Kaizer Chiefs in the decider. But he has not been used at all this season.
Bloemfontein Celtic’s Victor Letsoalo netted twice in the 3-0 victory over his former team Baroka FC that saw his side into their first Nedbank Cup final in 2020, while retired Mark Haskins netted a semifinal brace for BidVest Wits against Free State Stars as they lifted the trophy in 2010.
Terrence Dzvukamanja (BidVest Wits), Harris Tchilimbou (Free State Stars), Thobani Mncwango (Baroka FC), Thuso Phala and Sibusiso Zuma (both SuperSport United) are others who have managed two goals in the semis.
Two players have netted own goals, the unfortunate Mario Booysen (Maritzburg United) and Lucky Mohomi (Free State Stars).
